From a distance, “public relations” can seem like a relatively abstract term, especially to a newcomer like me. However, what I’ve grown to understand — first as an intern with Lot Sixteen, and now as an Associate — is that at its core, it’s the process of designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure needed to propel a desired message to the forefront of public awareness. With intrigue and fascination, I’ve participated in campaigns to peel back the layers of a story to its most critical components and then leverage those elements to construct a narrative that best serves the client, all while helping to navigate the logistical headwinds of the accompanying promotional demands.

Prior to joining Lot Sixteen, I spent time as a Communications Intern at a DC-based coalition aimed at advancing the effectiveness of U.S. foreign assistance. I helped to implement and scale the group’s external communications strategy, which revealed to me the necessity of transparent communication, as well as the importance of balance when crafting substantive and persuasive messaging.

A fresh graduate from Siena College with a degree in Communications, I was courted last spring by DC’s (somewhat) mild winters and fast-paced yet focused environment after spending an exchange semester in the immersive Washington Semester Program offered by American University.

As a transplant from Upstate New York, my favorite activities included taking short trips to soak up the unmistakable scenery of Adirondack mountains, or seasonal favorites like autumn apple-picking and visiting the Saratoga Race Track in the summer. Although still nostalgic about life upstate, my newly adopted home allows me to spend my free time wandering through my favorite Smithsonians, exploring shops and restaurants in different DC neighborhoods, and spending time with the great friends I’ve met throughout the city!
